Van Persie is such a beast. Absolutely amazing game of football. I hope England does that well against Italy in their game. |

Just noticed Ghana is in Group G, and I kinda feel for them now, knowing how good they did all things considered last World Cup. Now they're stuck in a group with Portugal, Germany and the US, where there's virtually no chance of them getting out of that. I might just buy a Ghana jersey out of pity. |

Uruguay v Costa Rica was an unexpectedly good game. Love it when the underdog wins, ESPECIALLY against a team like Uruguay that's team doesn't seem to give a **** about getting yellow/red cards. |

Damn, Clint Dempsey is putting his work in. Shame about Altidore and his hamstring, hopefully US can keep it up.
I wonder if people are going to get on the fact that Landon Donovan isn't on Team US this year if they manage to lose.
Portugal from earlier today though... sigh. Well deserved red card on Pepe. |

VERY impressed with Chile right now. Spain looks to be going the way of France from the last World Cup.
Also a very good game by Australia, they didn't win unfortunately but they gave it their all against the orange juggernaut that is Holland. |

I don't like Suarez, but I won't deny that he's extremely talented at what he does. Good that Rooney scored a goal at least but England's defense could have been a lot better in that match. |

Good lord Switzerland is getting thrashed by the French right now.
Also impressed with Costa Rica, managing to take down two high-ranked teams to make it to the next round. |

Shame to have Bosnia go out as a result of poor refereeing. Apart from Holland, Germany, and France, Europe as a whole doesn't seem to be faring well this WC.
Ghana really put it all out there too, I was hoping that they could win but a draw against a team like Germany is good too.
Messi gets it done against Iran as well. I hope that Argentina and Uruguay manage to meet at some point during this World Cup, if only for how great a match like that would turn out. |

Hey, don't forget Belgium! I'm aware we're not a big country, but we won twice so far! (Vs algeria and vs russia, next one's South Korea) But I agree with you, one of the worst ways to get out a Wordlcup is through bad refereeing.
You're right. At the time I posted that I knew they won vs Algeria but I had the notion that they might end up like Italy where they'd win one but then be eclipsed by others in the group. Today has shown this not to be the case though, and they now qualify for the knockout stages (and I think Algeria will be breaking out with them) |

So apparently Luis Suarez has bitten an Italian player and tried to cover it up with a dive, which would be his third time biting someone on the pitch. I guess he's not going to bother waiting this year to screw his team over. |

Seriously. It's a disgrace that the ref and FIFA didn't act on it, considering the VISIBLE teeth marks on Chiellini's body. Yet Marchisio gets ejected for something that could have just been a yellow card at best.
It's really sad that someone as gifted and as good as Suarez is prefers to squander his talent by being violent out on the field, not to mention the racial abuse he shouted at Patrice Evra years back and the blatant handball against Ghana last WC (which isn't really that much of an issue, but still makes him look like a scumbag). I'd say that Suarez should seek psychiatric help for the issues that he would clearly have, but it seems that not only Suarez himself, but the Uruguayan team, its coach, and much of Uruguay's native fanbase seem to have absolutely no problem with it, even going as far as to put the guy that got bit at fault. Disgusting. |

Well deserved. Liverpool diehards can whinge about it as much as they want but it's a much needed ban. Suarez should seek help in the meantime and take a good look at all the talent he's squandering in himself. |

So close for the US team! Tim Howard put on a goalkeeping clinic, although he really shouldn't have had to. It's a shame they went out in the round of 16, I was hoping they'd get to the quarterfinals at least. They're by no means a footballing powerhouse like the other nations still in the WC, but their efforts as well as their underdog status in their group and vs Belgium won me over. I'm enthusiastic about what the future will hold for them.
I'm glad Costa Rica is still hanging on though. I'm hoping they manage to upset the Dutch like they've managed to do to the other teams that have been the favorites over them. |

Team Messi (sorry, Argentina) is going into the semifinals. Hoped for Belgium to take that one, but oh well. Hoping for Costa Rica to show up the Dutch now. |

They weren't playing , they just put up a huge wall and prayed to make it for penalties.Good riddance , too bad Belgium lost as i would have loved a Belgium vs Netherlands game. Ah well here is hoping us dutch go through to the final so we can meet our arch enemy Germany .... and unlike 4 years ago not loose the fnals this time.Though we got Argentina to get passed first and that's a whole other game then vs Costa wallrica .
I had no idea WTF the coach was thinking taking Campbell off. He could have created the lead that Costa Rica needed to win the match and avoid having to take penalties in the first place. Navas is a great goalkeeper but eventually he's going to let one slip through either in the game or in penalties, as did Ochoa and Howard. Good defense may keep the opposing team from scoring but that doesn't always assure a victory.
I think it will be Germany and Netherlands to the finals, with Brazil and Argentina competing for 3rd. Germany and Netherlands are two teams that have excellent players making up much of the teams, whereas Argentina has to rely on Messi, and Neymar for Brazil (and he's out with an injury anyways).
With US and CRC out then I'll go back to backing the orange. It was sweet revenge to see them destroy Spain at the start and they have the great talent in guys like Van Persie, Robben, Depay etc. to get it done, plus the determination to finally get to the top. |

Where are your referees now, Brazil?
Germany absolutely destroyed them like the footballing machine I know they can be. Really hoping for Holland to get a win now, I'd rather see Germany vs an actual, functioning team rather than Germany vs Messi. |

It's just a mugging at this point. Brazil also trying to get the referee's sympathy AGAIN with a ridiculous dive. I hope Germany gets 5 more goals on them.

Brazil doesn't seem to be putting up much of a fight for 3rd. Thinking Holland will take it despite Van Gaal running down being in that position in the first place.
I'd really love for Germany to win to show that it's a team effort that wins championships, not relying on one man. I suppose I wouldn't mind an Argentina win as much as I did before, though. Messi hasn't been outstanding this WC I think, but if he gets yet another award to add to his repetoire, that's fine. I do like him in Barcelona too. |

Great final! Gotze is the hero of Germany right now, and Messi couldn't carry Argentina all the way, even if the two disallowed offside goals were considered.
However, Kramer really should have been off the pitch the moment he went down, and had someone escort him off instead of just leaving him to walk off on his own. Concussions are serious business, and FIFA shouldn't wait for someone to end up having a stroke, pulling a Chris Benoit, or dying as a result to act on it. |
